Education, research and training are
understood as different capacity building measures. The major tools applied are
the summer schools and expert seminars, where academics (mainly alumni,
scholars who have studied in Germany) work together with professionals from
water sector institutions and the final beneficiaries, the water (resources)
users. New concepts, like holistic and
participatory watershed management planning, new demands, like adaptation to
climate change, as well as comprehensive watershed measures including water and
soil conservation, finance instruments, wetland management, and conflict
transformation.
Tailor made courses are conducted when need
arises, like for “Enforcement of the Catchment Management Strategy” for WRMA in
Kenya, or the “GIS” training in Uganda.
