The Master programme on IWM is offered by Kenyatta University in collaboration with the partner universities Siegen (Germany), Dar es Salaam (Tanzania), Makerere (Uganda), and Arba Minch (Ethiopia).
The project aim is to strengthen the existing Master programme through additional elective courses in small-scale irrigation, water supply and -sanitation, utility management, financial instruments in watershed management, and appropriate concepts that address the needs of resource poor communities.
Three pilot sub-catchments serve as basic information and data systems for sustainable resources management and monitoring and facilitate ongoing research. These are: - Tana Basin (Kenya)
- Pangani Basin (Tanzania)
- Lake Bunyonyi Basin (Uganda)
The programme further supports applied research in Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) and IWM in collaboration with relevant institutions such as the International Water Management Institute (IWMI), Applied Training Programme (ATP) of the Nile Basin Initiative (NBI) and Water Resources Management Authorities of the partner countries.
The joint degree is offered by the four partner universities. Establishing e-learning, the project will increase networking between partner universities and will enhance quality of content. The envisaged international accreditation is expected as the key for establishing high quality of teaching and the basis for international student mobility. Students' and lecturers' exchange is encouraged to participate in ongoing international and bilateral programmes and projects.
