Kenyatta University - Geography Department PDF Print Email

The Department of Geography, Resource Development, and Tourism Studies caters for the needs of Geographical training of teachers, researchers and other professionals.
This is in response to the rising demand for Geography teachers and related professionals in the country. The department prepares professionals equipped with appropiated skills so as to meet challenges posed by Geography as a subject. Currently the department offers Bachelor of Science (BSc), Bachelor of Arts (B.A.), Bachelor of Education (BEd), Master of Science (MSc), Master of Arts (MA) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).

 

The mission of the Department is to train geography teachers and other professionals for both public and private sectors. In addition, the Department undertakes research and consultancy based on various geographical aspects and trends.

The Department of Geography, Resource Development and Tourism Studies deals with issues of cross cutting nature from the physical science to the human aspects.
The department has the aim of enhancing the knowledge of the students and society at large on critical issues, which influence humankind. This is done through lectures and research in agricultural issues, environmental conservation, geomorphology, natural hazards, population and settlements, development and planning, transport, marketing and tourism. This department keeps abreast of the current issues and adapts accordingly.

The Department of Geography has following facilities, which are available for research and teaching:
  • GIS Laboratory
  • A large collection of maps
  • Arboretum
  • Weather Station

IWMNet has been established as an International Network in form of a Trust on 21st of September 2011 in Kampala.The registration process has started in Kenya.
